The Matriots Education Fund (MEF) was created in 2020 with a clear and urgent mission: to increase the number of women engaged in, and leading, Ohio’s political system.
Today, that mission matters more than ever.
When women are not “heard in the halls of government at all levels,” Ohio loses the voices that shape policies affecting every family and community. Healthcare, paid leave, small business support, education, and public safety all depend on women being at the table. If women aren’t part of the decision-making, our state falls behind.
That’s why building a strong, enduring pipeline of women leaders is not optional, it’s essential. And it must happen now.
The MEF is working every day to make this possible. Through education, mentorship, and encouragement, we demystify the political process and equip women with the tools, confidence, and community they need to step forward. We know from our research that when Ohio women run, they win. But they are only entering about 30% of races statewide. If we don’t expand the pipeline, progress stalls.
And the barriers are growing. Political division, hostility toward women in public life, and real threats to candidate safety are discouraging potential leaders from stepping up. MEF exists so no woman in Ohio has to navigate that journey alone.
